What if my child is on a waiting list to see a therapist in person from another provider, can they still receive therapy?
Yes, Rural Children's Therapy is designed to support children who are currently on waiting lists or have a difficultly accessing therapy in person. You are given three options if you have been accepted to receive therapy in person by another provider:
1. Finish up working with Rural Children's Therapy. It is recommended you have 2 final sessions before transferring across, one to complete post therapy assessments and second to discuss how you would like your child future therapist to know of their goals, improvement and to complete discharge forms.
2. Continue working with Rural Children's therapy either with a 1 term a year intensive or ongoing. It is recommended if your child has significant funding left that you would have enough of a therapy budget for both providers.
3. If you have found the online Therapy has been the most beneficial therapy model for the your child you are more than welcome to stay with us and not accept the in person therapy.
Can I access your services if am NDIA-managed.
No, Rural Children's Therapy is not registered with the NDIS. Therefore it is unable to provide services to children who are NDIA managed. We are able to provide services to children who are self-managed or plan managed as well as private paying clients.
What happens when my child is older than 14 years old, can you still provide therapy.
Rural Children's Therapy would like to expand it's services in the future to children aged 15-18 years old. Rural Children's Therapy currently will not take on new client who are 15 years + however, Children who are already receiving services through Rural Children's Therapy who are 14 years old may be able to continues services if the parent and Therapist both agree that this service would continue to be beneficial to the child.
What if I am not looking for therapy just an assessment to be completed?
Rural Children's Therapy offers services to clients looking for assessments to be completed. You do not have to receive therapy from Rural Children's Therapy to have an assessment completed.
What if my child doesn't engage with Telehealth sessions? Do I have to stay with your service just because I have signed a service agreement?
No, if after a few session trialling different ways to engage your child, if yourself or the Therapist determines that Telehealth is not a suitable therapy style for your child, the therapist can end the service agreement with you, and your child so that your funds can be access by another provider.
What are your waiting lists like?
Rural Children's Therapy's main goal is to reduce the amount of time children spend on waitlists due to location or limited access to Occupational Therapists. Rural Children's Therapy has three main types of therapy: Intensive Therapy, ongoing weekly/fortnightly therapy & and one-off assessments.
Currently, Rural Children's Therapy can take on new clients (short intensive therapy, ongoing and one-off assessments).
What if I have two children who need therapy? Can I still do intensive sessions with both children?
Yes, Rural Children's Therapy will tailor your child's therapy program to their needs. This may look like one child doing intensive therapy one term and the other the next, both doing intensive therapy in the same term but at different times of the week or the children doing some therapy sessions together when working on the same goal.
What is your Cancellation policy.
Please refer to the section on Policies. Client will be charged a for appointment that have been cancelled within 48 hours of the appointment.
What type of clients do you typically work with? Do I need to sign all of my funding to your service?
Rural Children's Therapy is able to provide services for children with a range of needs and diagnosis'.
Rural Children Therapy is able to support families to receive basic equipment, however, due to being online, Rural Children's Therapy can not support clients with wheelchair prescription or pressure care equipment.
Rural Children's Therapy only provide Occupational Therapy services, therefore it is recommended that if you are wanting your child to access speech pathology or physiotherapy that sufficient funding is put aside for other services. If you are on a waiting list for another provider and they have indicated that you will be provided sessions during your current plan, then it is recommended that you also leave sufficient funding for that service.
Do you offer services in Behavioural Therapy or self regulation?
At present, no. Rural Children's Therapy focuses more on increase the child's functional ability and less on behaviour. The Occupational Therapist can provide support on the child understanding of emotions however, is unable to provide therapy around your child's behaviour.
What if I do not have a laptop, computer or Ipad to use for sessions.
It is recommended that session where the child is actively involved that an online video conferencing platform is used.
If you do not have access to a laptop or ipad, your child can still receive therapy via phone call or facetime, however this does limit the Therapists ability to use online programs, games and screen sharing, however the Therapist will still aim to have the therapy fun and engaging of phone call or facetime.
Parent coaching is able to be completed over the phone.
My Child doesn't have NDIS can they still access your services?
Yes, Rural Children Therapy provides private Occupational Therapy sessions. To support children who are unable to access therapy due to not having NDIS funding, Rural Children's Therapy provides a discount for these therapy sessions. More information provided in Service section.
